A French manicure is timeless, but a seasonal twist on the neutral look is always welcome. Come winter, cool metallics and warm, jewel-toned hues are extra fitting. “This winter, I’m loving the chocolate brown nail trend,” says nail artist Naomi Yasuda. And for those who want to tap into the holiday cheer without going overboard, a French manicure offers the perfect opportunity to do so in an understated way.
Swap the traditional white tip for silver or red and you have a nod to the season that wouldn’t look out of place any other time of year. “I’m a fan of the classic French manicure, especially in a dark red shade,” Yasuda says. “Adding a fun pattern, like leopard or tortoise shell, on the tip can elevate the look.”
For those who are DIY-ing their winter French manicures, Yasuda offers some wisdom. “Begin by marking the center of the nail with a small dot to set the thickness of the French tip. Next, place two dots on either side to define the depth of the tip. Connect these dots with a curved line to complete the look.”
Ahead, find 15 winter French manicures to show your nail tech or try at home.
